The fourth child, 6, was in severe condition at Birmingham Children's Hospital before passing away yesterday.

West Midlands police said in a statement on Wednesday evening: "It is with heartfelt sadness that we have to report this afternoon the six-year-old in hospital has lost his fight for life.

"Our deepest sympathies are with the families and friends of those involved in this tragedy. We cannot comprehend the enormity of the pain they must feel and our hearts go out to them."

At about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, witnesses reported sighting "six youngsters fall into a frozen lake" at Kingfisher Country Park in Kingshurst.

All four were rescued from the lake and given emergency life care after going into cardiac arrest.

Police have received no further information indicating that there are more missing children, but will continue the search on Monday to be "100% positive."

West Midlands Police Superintendent Richard Harris told reporters, "We have to be 100% certain that there is no one else possibly in the water at this time."

"It's important to stress though that we've had no contact from anybody suggesting that there"s anybody else missing but until we're 100% certain we will be carrying on searches throughout the course of today."

The West Midland police have released a further statement reading - "Three boys have tragically died after falling into the lake at Babbs Mill Park in Solihull yesterday afternoon (11 December).

"The boys, aged 11, 10, and eight were rushed to the hospital after being pulled from the water. Sadly, they could not be revived and our thoughts are with their family and friends at this deeply devastating time.

"We'll have specialist officers offering them as much support as we can. A fourth boy, aged six, remains in a critical condition in hospital."

It has been said it will now be focused on as a recovery mission for any other bodies.

Police said: "We've been working alongside colleagues from the fire and ambulance services as we do all we can to support those involved.

"Searches of the lake are continuing as we seek to establish exactly what happened and if anyone else fell into the water.

"We understand how distressing this is for the families and the wider community. We would ask people to not speculate or share any video footage at this stage."

Temperatures in the location are reported to have dropped to 1C (34F) at the time of the incident, before falling to -3C (26F) overnight.
