Love Island star Marcel Somerville is set to re-enter the villa as part of the show's highly anticipated All Stars series. The former Blazin’ Squad member, 39, has faced a challenging year, marked by a public breakup with his wife, Rebecca Vieira, 29, following explosive allegations of infidelity. Marcel and Rebecca began their relationship in 2019. They welcomed their son, Roman, in 2021 and were married in a picturesque wedding in Portugal in August 2022. However, their relationship took a dramatic turn when allegations emerged in early 2024 that Rebecca had been unfaithful.
Slim Jxmmi’s ex, KD, accused Rebecca of sending intimate messages to the rapper, taking to social media to expose the alleged affair and tagging both Rebecca and Marcel in her posts. The fallout led Rebecca to issue a public apology in March 2024, admitting to making a “huge mistake” and describing her actions as “foolish.” Speaking to The Sun, earlier this month, Marcel said: "I filed for divorce last year, we’re currently separated, I am single – but divorces can take a certain period of time." Marcel admitted that his now estranged wife was not happy when she found out he had signed up to All Stars, but has now "accepted it".
He shared: "There was no way I could go onto Love Island without telling her. "We share a son together, I’m not going to just disappear and be puff… ‘daddy’s gone and now he’s on TV.' We had a conversation, it probably came as a shock to her as she probably wasn’t expecting it be a situation. Again in life, people make mistakes and those choices lead to people being at a crossroads."
Adding to the intrigue of Marcel’s return to the villa is the news that his ex, Gabby Allen, is also joining the All Stars cast. Marcel and Gabby, who placed fourth together on Love Island’s third series in 2017, had a highly publicized split shortly after leaving the show. Gabby cited a "betrayal of trust" as the reason for their breakup. Sources say the pair went to Cancun, Mexico in 2018 and spoke about marriage. It was during this trip that Marcel slept with another woman. Marcel's management issued a statement confirming he had cheated on his behalf. They said: "Marcel can't really defend his actions as he knows what he did wrong and will regret it forever. Marcel is upset that he broke the heart of someone he loves and someone that he shared so many special moments with, but with all the good times there are difficult times, and sadly Marcel and Gabby had been in a bad place at this stage. Speaking ahead of her return to the villa, Gabby admitted she doesn’t know how she’ll feel when she sees Marcel again after six years. “Even though I’m over it now, it was something that happened,” she said. Despite their history, Gabby insists there are “no hard feelings” and hopes they can build a friendship.
Despite only being 39 years old, Marcel makes history as the oldest ever Love Islander ever. The once pop star who had a number one hit with 'Crossroads' in 2002 said his age won't hold him back in the villa - and will actually be a bonus. “People can find love in their 50s, people can find love in their 70s, there shouldn’t be an age limit on finding love or being happy," he said. "It’s Love Island All Stars, I feel like everyone is going to be older than they were when they were first on the show. I can guarantee there are people who are in their 30s, I’m in my 30s and majority of the time girls like an older man. If a girl is 32 or 33, me being 39 is not really going to be a drastic age difference.” Love Island executive producer Mike Spencer defended the decision, urging fans to “give the guy a break.”
