Just 13 months after their shocking victory on the winter series of Love Island 2023, Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan have announced their engagement, with stunning photos of their boat proposal.
Kai entered the villa with the original cast and the PE and Science teacher was quickly seen as one of the top bachelors by viewers. His good looks and calm demeanor got him partnered up with several girls during his time in the villa, including a very stiff romance with his fellow OG cast mate Olivia Hawkins. However, a brief trip to casa amour forced both Kai and Olivia to face the truth of their non-existent chemistry, as Kai was swept away by the beautiful social worker from Bedford, Sanam. Kai wasn’t the only one swept off his feet, in a turn of events that shocked the nation, Kai went from repeated stints in the bottom two, to winning the show against couples with much longer histories in the villa. This win made the pair, Kai who is mixed-race (of British and Jamaican descent) and Sanam who is Indo-Trinidadian, the first couple of color to ever win the Love Island series.
Despite there being over 150 miles between Kai’s Manchester home and Sanam’s home in Bedford, it seems the pair have managed to do what most other Love Island couples couldn’t and overcome the distance. The two quickly moved in together after leaving the villa and even set up a joint Youtube account to share glimpses into the life they had started building together. After a 13-month romance, the two have announced their engagement with a stunning picture shared to Kai’s Instagram. The couple can be seen dressed in white aboard a boat on a British canal, Sanam looking adoring at her beautiful ring whilst Kai is on bended knee. Kai added the following caption to their engagement photos:
“Introducing the next Mrs Fagan. Beautiful, Caring, Loving and Smart are just some of the words that describe you. I love loving you, I love you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
The fairytale proposal had a perfect ending as the couple released other photos of their romantic champagne-filled boat ride after Sanam had said 'yes'. The two have stayed united in one of the things that brought them together in the first place - their work with children. The teacher and social worker notoriously returned to their day jobs shortly after winning the show, and though they may not have remained in that line of work, they recently announced their joint campaign to raise money for young people with the charity Action For Children. The couple are one of three successful couples from the cycle, who have managed to withstand the pressures of the outside world; including Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga and Will Young and Jessie Wynter - but Kai is the first to pop the question! We wish them a lifetime of happiness and dodging the Love Island statistics!
