King Charles III's coronation date is already marked on the royal family calendar for another reason.
Buckingham Palace have confirmed that the new King will be officially crowned on May 6th, 2023 — the same day that his grandson Archie Harrison will be celebratinghis 4th birthday.
The coronation date is much earlier in the year than was widely speculated, as many believed that King Charles would pick June 2 to honor the same date of the recently passedQueen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953.
"The Coronation will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry," the palace claimed in a statement, and added that Queen Camilla will be crowned at the ceremonyalongside her husband. Continuing with royal tradition, the ceremony will commence at Westminster Abbey, where British monarchs have been coronated for the last 900 years.
On the day of Coronation, new King Charles will travel from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey with Camilla, his Queen Consort. They are rumoured and likely to be taken in the gold state coach, which is reserved for coronations and jubilees.Unfortunately for Brits there will be no extra bank holiday to celebrate the historic occasion.Although the UK were given a day off last month to mourn the death of the Queen, ministers have said that another bank holiday is highly unlikely. The Coronation ceremony will be broadcasted live on television, however, the number of guests who will be able attend in person is expected to be cut from 8,000 to 2,000.
