NIGERIAN HILDA BACI SETS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD FOR LONGEST INDIVIDUAL COOKING MARATHON

Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has officially been confirmed as the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Taking to Twitter, Guinness World Records wrote: "After reviewing all the footage, we're delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual)."

Hilda, 26, began cooking on Thursday, May 11th to Monday, May 15th. She attempted to reach 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total due to her mistakenly taking extra minutes for one of her breaks.

In a video, a representative of the Guinness World Records, said: "Anyone attempting a marathon record receives a five minutes break for every hour that they complete. This is to allow suitable rest breaks for the participants due to the prolonged nature of these records.

”In this case, there was a miss calculation when it came to Hilda’s rest breaks, meaning we are unable to award the 100 hours claimed.”

He added: "I can now announce with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Hilda Baci is the new holder of the Guinness World records title for the longest cooking marathon. Congratulations, you are officially amazing."

Lata Tondon from India held the previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes in 2019.

In a statement, Hilda said she wants her record to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and “inspire young African women to chase their dreams. I also decided to break this record to truly push my limits and test my abilities.”
