Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known by his stage name Mohbad, was a rising rapper, singer, and songwriter from Nigeria. The rapper died at the young age of 27, which led to widespread outrage on social media with the hashtag #Justice4Mohbad as well as on the streets, where his fans are demanding an investigation surrounding his death.
Mohbad who had recently left Naira Marley's label died after a visit to a clinic after treatment for an ear infection, filtered in last Tuesday. Within hours of his death, the six-foot artist was buried by members of his family with videos on social media showing his neck bent unnaturally to fit into the coffin. His wife and infant son were not present at the funeral.
That, and footage of attacks reportedly sponsored by fellow musician Naira Marley whose record label Marlian Records the late artist was signed to until last year, triggered nationwide outrage.
Consequently, there have been a number of protests, as well as a procession of youths on Thursday singing his name and calling for an investigation while marching to a tribute concert with many musicians in attendance.
Some of the attendees hoisted his portrait above their heads. Others wore his face on their shirts.
Fans also held a memorial in Peckham, South East London, to pay respects to the artist, who was previously signed to Naira Marley's label.
The exact cause of his sudden death in a Lagos hospital is currently unknown- with allegations growing of the harassment he was reportedly was suffering from politically connected figures at his former music label. The exhumation of his body has also sparked outrage after witnesses reported seeing blood in his grave, indicating foul play regarding his death.
