Spider-Man: No Way Home Set to Score Third Biggest Box Office Opening in History

Spider-Man: No Way Home has had the third biggest opening weekend in the box office of any Hollywood film in history.

The much anticipated third film of Tom Holland's Spider Man took a huge amount of £443.5 million ($587.2 million) at the global box office during its opening weekend. Only Avengers films, Endgame and Infinity War, are ahead of No Way Home at first and second place respectively. Tom Holland has starred in all three films.

No Way Home grossed $253m in the US and Canada, and $334.2m from more than 60 overseas markets. No Time To Die remains the highest grossing Hollywood film of 2021 followed by Fast & Furious 9. No Way Home looks set to overtake these two films.

The head of Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman, commented on these results: "This weekend's historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have."

Tom Holland shared his feelings of the film's success worldwide on Instagram: "Wow guys I can't believe these numbers. You made this possible. Your love and support means the world to me. Thank you thank you thank you and if you haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet.. merry Christmas and you know what to do."
