The president of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has agreed to resign after his house and offices were swarmed by protestors.
In triumphant scenes on Saturday, protestors managed to break through police barriers before charging towards the president's official residence.
The citizens made themselves very comfortable in his home as they swam in his pool, used gym equipment and cooked his food. Protestors were also seen lying down on beds and sofas.The president was not at home during this invasion as his security detail had helped him flee during the night before the attack. The president has continued to remain in hiding as the citizens of the country enjoyed many of the luxuries in his home that had been inaccessible to them for several years.50-year-old Rajith reported he had chosen to take part in the protest because he could no longer feed his two children.
He described the shock he felt when entering the presidents home only to discover "they didn't lack anything" whilst the rest of the country were suffering.He continued:"We saw their luxury rooms, their AC, their cooking gas. They even have so many pedigree pets."Images and videos have been circulating online of people flooding up the grand staircase on the president's building whilst calling out chants for their president to go.The protestors were calling for the president to resign for months as the country have been dealing with the worst economic crisis since Independence.Dhanu also spoke to press about her experience
."I came because there is something terribly wrong happening here.""I saw at the president's house how he enjoyed his life using taxpayers' money and now he is hiding like a coward dog.""The president has fled because he's a thief."The country have placed most of the blame on the Rajapaska family as they are Sri Lanka's most powerful political dynasty, holding the positions of president, prime minister, finance minister and many other senior cabinet posts within the government.The family are accused of corruption, mismanaging the economy and pushing the nation into bankruptcy.
