Two police officers have been rushed to hospital following a stabbing in Leicester Square in the early hours of 6 am this morning.
It has been said their wounds are not life-threatening and a man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker.
A taser was used to detain the suspect on Great Windmill Street and the man is also being treated in Hospital.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has stated the attack was "utterly appalling" during a "momentous time for our country".
Khan added: "These brave officers were doing their duty and assisting the public at this momentous time for our country.
"My thoughts and prayers are with them, their loved ones and police colleagues following this disgraceful attack."
Scotland Yard has also informed that the male officers' families have been informed.
The stabbing, which took place near Haymarket between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square which is usually busy with commuters and tourists as it houses many Theatre houses and China Town is now completely inaccessible to the public.
