DISPENSEREE: UK’S ILLEGAL CANNABIS SERVICE REBRANDS AWAY FROM ‘DISPENSEROO’ AMIDST MILLIONS IN REVENUE AND LEGAL HEAT FROM DELIVEROO

Just twenty years ago, it may have shocked residents to hear that today’s consumers can order groceries from supermarkets, tasty treats to their living rooms, and alcohol and cigarettes to their doorstep with just a few taps on a phone. Now, alongside the above luxuries, lovers of cannabis can skip the late-night awkward weed pick-up experience and wait comfortably at their homes for the goods to be delivered through the letterbox.

Dispenseree, previously named Dispenseroo before being forced to change its name due to legal action from Deliveroo, is an illegal cannabis delivery start-up in the UK, generating millions of pounds in revenue each year. The bold site operates on the open web, making it easily accessed through everyday search engines like Google. There you can find a variety of cannabis products for sale, with reviews from customers across the country.

The introduction of the ground-breaking site has reignited the conversation about the future of cannabis in this country and its current regulations. According to the founder, who mysteriously goes by ‘S’, “there is a huge difference between hard drugs and weed”.

“There is a lot of misinformation and negative images to those that are ill-informed. But many of our customers use cannabis for medical reasons and to treat complex illnesses like depression.”

Producing or supplying cannabis in the UK can land you in jail for up to 14 years and/or an unlimited fine while possession of the drug can get you up to five years in prison and a potential fine also. S told The Independent newspaper that he had never sold drugs before starting Dispenseree and only created the service out of frustration with strict cannabis laws in the UK.

Established in August 2022, the company plummeted to success following a series of illegal cannabis adverts seen across public transport in London. The billboard ads placed around London Tubes and streets stated that the restrictions around the class B drug in the UK are “archaic and stupid”.  The business ads also included a discount code, making them an effective marketing agency to attract intrigued consumers to their site.

S, who says he doesn’t live in the UK, revealed that the start-up generated millions in revenue in less than a year after creation. Speaking to ITV, disguised in a face scarf and sunglasses, S explained his motivation behind the innovative service, doubling down on his decision to take drug dealing to a whole new level:

"The reason I came up with Dispenseroo is because buying weed is quite a hard and convoluted process. There's a lot of fake dealers that scam people, a lot of robberies that happen, a lot of street crime, so when I was able to get good weed, I was thinking ‘cool, why shouldn't I be able to share this?"

Although secretive about the exact figures generated by the unorthodox business, Dispenseree ships thousands of orders each week, suggesting that monthly revenue may have surpassed £1m.

“I never expected it to grow this quickly,” S shared back in 2022, “I am also a very normal person, regardless of my choice of profession.”

Dispenseree highlights demand for cannabis products that ought to kickstart a discussion about the Class B drug’s illegality in the UK, particularly in contrast with other parts of the world where the substance is treated more leniently.

“We're trying to show the demand from the people’s side of how many people want clean, safe cannabis.”, says S

Through word-of-mouth, rebellious advertising techniques, and a blatant disregard for “archaic” laws, founder S has managed to create a lucrative business that still raises legal questions as to how it's even possible.
