Audiences were thrilled last night as they finally saw Jamaican dancehall star Mavado performing in the UK. It is first time the artist – born David Constantine Brooks – has been seen on this side of the shore for 15 years.
The "Give It All to Me" musician was joined on stage by rapper Chip - with the pair lighting up the crowd by performing their hit song "Every Gyal." The song was first recorded and shot in Jamaica in 2011. However, the show faced some technical issues. At one point, Mavado walked off the stage, later returning to perform more songs.
During the show, Mavado surprised fans by publicly showing love for his longtime dancehall rival Vybz Kartel. In the video, Mavado stated, “Unuh know mi come from the street right, unuh know everything weh mi duh mi get a fight right, cah mi nah bow out and sell out to some people right… Mi just wah seh bigg up Vybz Kartel cah mi know yuh soon come a bomboc**t road.”
The rivalry between the pair is over a decade long with Mavado – who hails from Kingston, Jamaica - once alleging that Kartel was a closet homosexual, bleached his skin bleached and is an atheist. While Kartel – who was born in Portmore, St Catherine – alleged to have slept with Mavado's mother. He even once carried a coffin with his nemesis name on onstage.
