Kaluuya reveals why he declined collaboration with a brand that sought to pair him with white actors who hadn't reached similar career milestones.

Daniel Kaluuya has disclosed the rationale behind his decision to decline fashion campaigns that involved collaboration with white celebrities. He rejected an offer from a brand that intended to pair him with white actors who, according to him, "had not achieved as much" in their careers as he had.

The 34-year-old Nope actor, who earned an Oscar for his performance in Jesus And The Black Messiah, emphasised his commitment to "representing right" through his choices in brand partnerships.

‘I said no to them. I didn’t understand it. If it’s not a (big) yeah, it’s a no,’ he stated.

Kaluuya told the British GQ - ‘They wanted to put me against two white actors that hadn’t achieved as much as me.

‘And I was all, “I wanna be on my own. Because that’s not gonna look good.”

‘I’ve done things. I just feel like I have a certain position. It’s not like, “Oh, I’m so cool.” I’m just like, “I don’t like that.”

‘It’s got to be because of what it means, because I want to be out there and make sure I’m representing right.’

He also said that ‘no one’s gonna make me feel like that’ and he is determined to not ‘shrink’ himself.

‘My mum didn’t raise me like that. Why do I shrink myself to make people feel comfortable?’, he declared.

‘I want to do some good, cool (projects.)

‘I want to help people, and I want to bring jobs. I want everyone to grow artistically. I want to do amazing things.

Meanwhile, alongside his achievements in the acting realm and prior speculation about potentially becoming the next James Bond, Daniel has taken on the role of associate artistic director at The Roundhouse in Camden, London.

In his opening act within this position, he unveiled the establishment of a new youth theatre company aimed at paving the way for actors from diverse backgrounds to enter the industry.
