Four Social Media Influencers have been named for their consistent breaking of advertising rules by the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) So far, Chloe Ferry, Chloe Khan, Jodie Marsh, and Lucy Mecklenburgh have all been named for repeatedly failing to follow the rules.
The 4 individuals have been contacted by the ASA, who have asked for confirmation that labels will be 'clear and upfront in the future during their Ad campaigns.
It is understood that there was formal confirmation received by any of those named, and even if they did agree to the terms, they seemed to go back on their word.ASA Chief Executive, Guy Parker said "We prefer to work with influencers and brands to help them stick to the rules, but the first influencers to be named on this list have been given every opportunity to treat people fairly about their ads.""It's not difficult: be upfront and clear when posts and stories are ads." He added. The four influencers in question will remain on this list for a further three months, but it has been made clear that further sanctions may be on the way.
"If this doesn't bring about the changes we expect, we won't hesitate to consider further sanctions." Mr Adams continued.Other influencers could join the list alongside the current 4 if they fail to take the rules seriously. In March, the ASA spoke about monitoring around the accounts of 122 UK-based influencers. They found that only 35% of the subjects had been following the rules correctly.
