Katie Price is currently facing bankruptcy for the second time, over an unpaid tax bill exceeding £750,000.
This come after she allegedly failed to respond to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) about her debt of £761,994.05, according to what was presented in court on Monday. This action by HMRC follows an earlier demand last October. Previously declared bankrupt in 2019 due to unpaid debts, Ms. Price was absent from the recent brief court hearing.
"There has been no response from the debtor. The papers are in order," stated Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Sebastian Prentis during the hearing at London's Rolls Building. He confirmed a significant debt owed by Ms. Price to HMRC, leading to the decision to declare her bankrupt once again.
The judge highlighted that the debt stems from self-assessments for the tax years 2020-2021 and 2021-22, encompassing income tax, VAT, surcharges, and interest. In a separate legal matter in February, a High Court judge ruled that Ms. Price must allocate almost half her income from the adult entertainment site OnlyFans to settle part of her unpaid debts over the next three years.
Further scrutiny of Ms. Price's finances is scheduled for April, as disclosed in the hearing. Additionally, she was fined £880 last week for driving without insurance and a licence in Northamptonshire the previous August.
Ms. Price openly discussed her bankruptcy on Michelle Visage's Rule Breakers podcast last summer, admitting to frequent court appearances and expressing indifference towards the possibility of imprisonment. In March of the previous year, she shared on Jeremy Vine's Channel 5 show her struggles with mental health in recent years and encouraged openness about bankruptcy.
She acknowledged during an October 2020 financial hearing her challenges in managing these issues and understanding the proceedings due to her mental state.
