Katie Price given suspended jail term after Sussex drink-driving crash

Reality TV personality, Katie Price, has been given a 16-week suspended jail term after pleading guilty to drink-driving whilst  also disqualified and without car insurance at the time of the crash.

Katie was arrested after crashing her car in West Sussex and admitted all charges on 29 September.

District Judge Amanda Kelly handed Price a two-year driving ban and said the former model was lucky to be avoiding prison, describing Katie's actions as "incredibly selfish" with "no concern of the life of others" as she could have "easily killed somebody".

Katie Price has in the past been banned from driving on five separate occasions, described by the judge as "one of the worst driving records" she had ever seen.

Price was also given 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 sessions of rehabilitation work with probation.

Katie was on her way to see a friend when the crash happened, on which no other vehicles were involved. She revealed at the hospital:

"I took drugs, I should not be driving, I admit it all".

A drugs wipe proved a positive reading for cocaine and a roadside breath test was positive for alcohol.

Some people, particularly those who have suffered a loss as a result of drunk drivers have expressed their disappointment regarding the sentencing of the TV personality.

Kirsty Martell, whose 21-year-old brother Frank was killed in 2017, said: "It's a disgusting sentence. Price has escaped with just a slap on the wrist.

"This is just another example of how drink-driving isn't taken seriously until someone is killed."

"Any drink-driver is just a ticking time bomb which could result in tragedy.

"Therefore, there must be much harsher penalties for drink-drivers to act as a severe deterrent to help avoid the tragedy that our family has gone through."

Ceinwen Briddon, whose daughter died in March 2014 when her Fiat Punto was hit by an over-the-limit driver, persisted that Price's 16-week suspended sentence, 100 hours of community service and 20 rehab sessions were nowhere near enough.

"It is unbelievable really," she said.

"The fact is if she was already banned and then did it again it should have been an automatic jail sentence.

"It makes a mockery of the whole justice system of this country. I cannot believe she has got away with this when she was banned."
