Owami Davies: Police spoke to nurse after she was reported missing

Met Police Officers spoke to Owami Davies after she had been reported as a missing person.

The 24-year-old studying nursing at King's College London and left her home in Croydon on July 4th.She was last seen on the 7th of July but police officers had actually spoke to her in Croydon on the 6th.The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) requested a referral of the information and said:"We are currently assessing the available information to determine what further action may be required

.Although Ms Davies was reported missing early July, the case was handed to the Met on the 23rd. However, the Met have now said that officers were called to an address in Croydon regarding concerns over the welfare of a woman on July 6th. The police attended and called for an ambulance service but the woman insisted that she did not want help and left.Ms Davies had unfortunately not been marked as a missing person on the database at the time.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: "The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) were consulted and as there has been contact with police the IOPC were informed."The IOPC has requested the matter be referred to them. "The officers are not subject to any current investigation by the DPS."The interaction recorded on the officers' bodyworn video has been viewed by members of the Independent Advisory Group and Owami's family to ensure openness and transparency.

"Five people have been arrested in connection to her disappearance: two on suspicion of murder and three on suspicion of kidnap. They have since been released on bail, pending further investigation.The force issued a new appeal at the beginning of this week, saying Ms Davies could be in Croydon and "in need of help".On Thursday, British Transport Police (BTP) tweeted that Davies could still be using trains, may appear dazed or confused and might be looking to speak with women travelling alone.
