konan underwent ptsd therapy to cope with the aftermath of a gun attack on his family

In the documentary Konan gives intimate access to his own therapy sessions while meeting and connecting with other individuals who are also grappling with PTSD.

The rapper also revealed that he started having flashbacks and other symptoms of PTSD, including anxiety, paranoia, anger, and intense feelings of guilt over a decade ago after his mother was shot and his stepfather killed by gang members who broke into his house attempting to get to Konan.

Since appearing on “Trapped in Trauma, in the Untold strand”, Konan has kept up his therapy, and he is astounded by its effects. He has been able to pinpoint the life experiences that have influenced his behavioural responses, how to put those responses into perspective, and what his triggers are through treatment.

The rapper said through his twitter account that his diagnosis and entire experience on the show was life changing

In a tweet following the documentary, Konan wrote, “Over the past few months, I have been involved in the filming of a documentary for Channel 4. The focus of this documentary was my personal journey through therapy, which aimed to address and cope with my past traumas. As a result, I received an official diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Throughout the documentary, I travelled across the country, meeting and connecting with other individuals who were also grappling with PTSD."

“I hope this documentary encourages others to engage in open dialogue, rather than bottling up things like I did”, he added.

Analysis conducted exclusively for Untold reveals that an estimated 300,000 individuals aged 16 to 24 in England and Wales currently have PTSD, with most cases linked to personal assault and violence. Approximately 70% of these cases go untreated due to low awareness of symptoms and the challenges associated with diagnosing the disorder.

Channel 4’s analysis, based on research by King’s College London and data from the Office for National Statistics, suggests that increased early intervention therapy from the NHS could potentially save £2.4 billion in taxpayer money.
