Texas School Shooting: Deadliest US shooting in almost a Decade

A Texas school shooting has resulted in the deaths of 19 elementary school children and two adults. 

Victims of the Texas Shooting[/caption]An 18-year-old gunman named Salvador Ramos fatally shot 19 children and two adults at a Texas elementary school before he was killed by law enforcement officers.The shooter also shot his grandmother who is currently in critical condition before crashing a vehicle and opening fire at Robb elementary school - which teaches children aged 7 to 11The gunman is believed to have acted alone and was a student at the local high school in the city of Uvalde.

The two adults who died were both teachers at the school - Irma Garcia and Eva Mireles.

According to the school district's website, Mrs Garcia is a mother-of-four and had been a teacher for 23 years and Ms Mireles had been a teacher for 17 years and has a daughter in college and loved hiking and running.

Salvador had posted a picture of assault riffles on his social media just days before the tragic incident. The suspect carried with him a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines, investigators say.Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Chief of Police Pete Arredondo has said that the shooting began at 11:32am on Tuesday, and that investigators are sure that the attacker "did act alone during this heinous crime".Texas Governor, Greg Abbott said that the Salvador abandoned a vehicle before entering the school to "horrifically, incomprehensibly" open fire.According to CBS News, the attacker was wearing body armour as he carried out the attack.

Some of the children who were killed have been identified.

Angel Garza said on Facebook that his daughter Amerie had been killed. He wrote:

"My little love is now flying high with the angels above. Please don't take a second for granted. Hug your family. Tell them you love them."

This is now the deadliest US school shooting in almost ten years.
