A 24-year-old woman from India has announced that she intends to marry herself in India's first ever 'sologamy'.

Kshama Bindu resides in India's northwestern Gujarat state and is planning on marrying herself in a traditional Hindu wedding on the 11th of June.This will likely be the countries first reported instance of sologamy.Talking to Press Trust of India, Bindu commented: "At one point in my life, I realised that I don't require a prince charming because I am my own queen."I want the wedding day, but not the next day.

That is why I have decided to marry myself on 11 June.

"While the wedding will certainly be unprecedented, Bindu wishes to maintain many of the traditions that can be found in a common Indian wedding. This will include the 'pheras', a traditional ceremony where, in most cases, a couple move around a sacred fire.She explained: "I will dress up like a bride, take part in rituals, my friends will attend my wedding and then I will come back to my house instead of going with the groom."

When asked by The Times of India why she wanted to marry herself, Bindu responded: "I never wanted to get married. But I did want to become a bride. So, I decided to marry myself."Self-marriage is a commitment to be there for yourself and unconditional love for oneself. It's also an act of self-acceptance. People marry someone they love. I love myself and hence, this wedding."The 24-year-old has received criticism over social media over her decision to marry herself. However, this has not diminished her desire to continue with this process.Instead, Bindu hopes that by marrying herself that she will 'start [a] trend and inspire others.
