Raye Speaks Out Against Record Label Holding her Back from Releasing Album

The UK singer/songwriter, Raye expressed her frustrations in a series of tweets - talking about how her record label has held her back from recording music since she signed a deal with them.

The 23-year-old said she has been signed to Polydor records for close to 8 years now but hasn't been allowed to record an album yet. She added that she had piles and piles of songs waiting to be released but was forced to give some of them away to big name artists as she waited for confirmation from her record label.

The singer, who has collaborated with Rudimental and David Guetta, released her new single, Call on Me, earlier this month. She said Polydor would only allow her to make an album if the single does well.

She sick of being "slept on"

"Imagine the pressure of waking up every day frantically looking at numbers and stats hoping that I can just make my bloody first album", she wrote in her 5th tweet.

Raye added that she had waited a long time to release an album. She wrote: "I'm sick of being slept on and I'm sick of being in pain about it".

The singer added that she had done everything she had been asked to do, from switching genres to working seven days a week but still couldn't get her label to release her album.

"I'm done being a polite pop star. I want to make my album now, please that is all I want", she concluded.

Raye first released music with the label in 2016 with two singles; Distraction and Ambition - which featured Stormzy and I, U, Us.

It's not the first time an artist is coming forward to express frustration with a record label. South London rapper, Nadia Rose left her old label to set up her own after going through the same problem.
